The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for long-term couples who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but inside Together exists a deep examination about how we choose to love our partners.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have been together for over ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their roles, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when the couple transition from the big city to the country for her career. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the tropes conclude. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and distant from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together refrains from painting one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Both characters confront the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory avoids being hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can experience right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
